Eligibility
- Any Indian citizen (Resident and NRI) and OCI cardholders are eligible to apply.
- The minimum age requirement for applicant is 21, with no upper age limit.

Application Requirements
- Applicants should apply with a basic documentary idea or concept that they want to work on during the program. Project ideas can be submitted at various stages of production, including development and early production.
- The applicant must submit a 3-minute short documentary film made specifically for the application. The theme or topic for the film is ‘The Time I Live In.’ They are encouraged to interpret the theme from their own point of view. The film must be shot, edited, and directed by the applicant. Any kind of audio-visual equipment can be used for making the application film, including a smartphone.
- Applicants should have either previously created a short film of any genre or played significant roles in a film project. A link of their previous film should be added in the application.
- Applicants must possess intermediate or basic knowledge and skills in cinematography, sound, and editing.
Application Procedure
- Applicants apply with a documentary idea, a 3-minute application film, and other necessary details about themselves specified in the application form.
- Preselected applicants are invited for an online interview.
- Please note that only preselected applicants are communicated about the pre and selection results via email.
Fee and Scholarship

- The fee includes faculty and mentor fees for the entire 5-month duration. It also covers the participant’s accommodation for 31 nights, and all on-site and off-site costs of running the residencies and online phases. These costs include technical rentals, internet, and other necessary materials.
- Participants are responsible for covering their own travel expenses and daily food. The residency venue will have an on-site eating facility.
- Participants need to arrange audiovisual equipment and editing setups for the production of their short films.
- A limited number of full scholarships are available for Indian citizens residing in India. The full scholarship covers food, accommodation, and academic costs.
- Please note that scholarships are only available for applicants from SC, ST, and OBC (NCL) categories.
- Docustan is working towards setting up a limited numbers of partial scholarships for applicants from EWS categories.
